Waking up early in the morning, getting ready,
packing lunch and water....preparing for another hike
for mountain apples.
Jambu like fruits, that apparently some say are not jambu
but according to internet sources, are jambu.
In fact, they are a native of Malaysia..!!!
Anyways, began our hour long drive to the north shore around 10am so that we will arrive at 11.
Man, traffic sucked,
all these tourist trying to get around driving at 15 mph trying to find their destination on a one lane freeway which has a speed limit of 45 Mph. If I had a shot gun, I would have blown that damn blue Dodge off the road and save many people a lot of time and not to mention
GAS.
Arrived at our assigned parking area, we started walking up the freeway, heading to our path.
Beginning with a climb we huff anf puff our way to the top of the hill.
Then, we head down into a gulch and along the riverside we walk
criss-crossing occasionally (about 10 times)
eaten alive by mosquitos in search of the mysterious
Mountain Apples.....
The apparently not jambu, jambu..
Further and further into the jungle we go and still no sight of the elusive fruit.
None.....no flowers in sigh, no red fruit....
hmmm.............
Then, we see flowers, still not blooming.....dammit.
Came too early in the season.
no fruit, therefore we are returning home,
climbing up the gulch, empty handed.
All this walking for nothing.
We were here a whole month early, they don' t start to fruit until August!!!
We'll be back jambu....yes we will....
Here's what they are supposed to look like.
The Fruit
The trees
Let's hope we have more luck in late august....
